Birdhouse Kits

Birdhouses are a popular backyard accessory with millions of people around the world. They are available in dozens, if not hundreds of different sizes and designs, ranging from simple and rustic to replicas of the worlds most famous architectural wonders. And while a visit to one’s local home improvement store can often provide you with a host of options, for many people, the best part of a birdhouse is the process of building it. If you are a skilled woodworker, building such an enclosure is a relatively simple process. However, for the rest of us, purchasing birdhouse kits are the best way to get started.

Woodworking is not necessarily an easy task, even on the most simplistic of projects. It requires a great deal of skill and experience to properly cut and shape the pieces necessary to build a quality birdhouse, not to mention understanding the proper safety procedures and equipment. Serious injury can occur when woodworking equipment is used improperly and as such if one has never used this type of equipment before, it is best to gain some training from an expert before operating it on your own. Fortunately, there are many kits that are available and do not require any power tool use, and these kits are highly recommended for those with little to no woodworking experience.

Beginner birdhouse kits often come with prefabricated wood pieces and all of the required hardware. This means that the only other items that are needed will be a few simple hand tools and a little bit of time and patience. These kits come with very detailed instructions, and some even include color photos, in order to make the assembly process as easy as possible. By carefully following these instructions and using the included wood pieces and hardware, even the least experienced of woodworkers can complete a well-made birdhouse.

For the more experienced woodworker, birdhouses can often be completed from nothing more than a set of plans. Plan sets can be found for dozens of different sizes and designs, as well as a wide array of complexity. The most basic birdhouse designs often take less than a few hours to complete, assuming one has adequate experience. However, some of these designs can incorporate a great deal of detail work, which can add a great deal of time and effort to a given project. These details can range from custom window assemblies to roof shingles and balconies, and in many cases require a great deal of tool control and familiarity with proper tool technique.

Birdhouse kits for woodworkers of nearly any ability can be purchased through any number of sources. Many home improvement stores, as well as local hobby shops, will often have a wide selection of kits from which one can choose, with some being more complicated than others. There are also many online retailers that specialize in plan sets and kits for unique birdhouses. The prices can vary considerably from one kit to the next, but in many cases, basic designs can be purchased relatively inexpensively.
