of Decorative Bird Houses.
If you are looking for decorative bird houses, you will need to make sure that the decoration does not negatively affect the inhabitants of the bird house. For example, it is always a good idea to have a birdhouse painted white, if it is to be painted at all. This will keep the decorative bird houses cool in the summer and as a result, the guests more comfortable. Avoid a bird house that is painted black, this is going to drive up the temperature in the summer months and could hurt the nestlings.
Look for decorative bird houses that have no perch. Although a perch looks very nice and completes the look of the bird house, it is actually a way for a predator to rest and spend more time trying to attack the bird house. You should also buy the relevant decorative bird houses for your expected species. The species you can expect will depend on the habitat you live in and what birds frequent that area. Investigate what birds you can expect and buy the bird house that has the right sized hole. You will also need to hang it at the correct height.
Gourds make very good decorative bird houses and you also have the opportunity to paint and modify them yourself should you so desire. But again, do not paint the gourd black or this will make the internal temperature uncomfortable. You will also want to use non toxic paint to take out the risk of causing the birds any potential harm.
