of Hanging Bird Houses.
Not every bird will be attracted to hanging bird houses. Most cavity dwelling birds prefer the security and stability of a mounted bird house. But wrens and finches will use a hanging bird house. It is important to know where to hang the house so that predators do not have an easy time raiding the nest.
Typically, hanging bird houses will be suspended from a branch. But you should not place the house too close to the trunk of the tree. It should also not be too close to the ground, between 5 to 10 feet form the ground should make it hard for predators to jump up and attack the bird house.
If you are looking to attract wrens to your hanging bird houses, you should hang a house that has a 4" by 4" floor space and a ΒΌ"entrance hole. The male wren builds several nests and the female chooses the one she likes the most. So if you are looking to attract wrens to birdhouses, it is a good idea to hang a selection of bird houses to make it all the more attractive to the wren.
