of Red Bird Houses.
If you are thinking about buying red bird houses, you need to select one carefully. Make sure that you know what type of red wood stain was used. Red bird houses should be painted in a water-based stain as non-water based stains could be toxic and potentially cause harm to the birds.
Look for red bird houses that have been stained and not painted. As for color, you should choose a lighter red as a darker color could increase the internal temperature of the bird house and make your guests uncomfortable. But it should be said that the best type of bird houses are not painted at all. Cavity dwelling birds prefer natural wood and recommended types are cedar and pine. Although these woods are more expensive than other types, they weather well and will last a very long time.
Red bird houses can look very attractive and as the stain starts to fade it gives a nice rustic look to the birdhouse. But you should not put out the bird house until the paint has dried and the odor has evaporated. A bird house that still smells of stain or paint could deter your avian visitors from taking up residency.
