of Wooden Birdhouses.
Wooden birdhouses are some of the most commonly purchased backyard accessories in this country, as well as in many other parts of the world. They can be found in designs ranging from the very rudimentary to those that mimic the architecture of some of the world’s most famous buildings, and they are a great way to encourage the local bird population to stop and stay awhile. For bird lovers, these enclosures also allow one to closely observe the habits and behaviors of the native birds of the area.
For any kind of birdhouse, wood is almost always the preferred construction material. The most important reason for this is that wood is a natural material, and as such it blends in with the natural environment much more easily. This is an essential consideration for those that are looking to maintain as agrarian an environment as possible. Wood is also easily cut and shaped, making it a great material for construction of any kind, large or small. It can be used to create highly decorative, detailed pieces, or can be left in a more unprocessed state in order to truly blend in with its surroundings. Finally, wood is a material that has a warmth and tactile aesthetic that simply cannot be duplicated by artificial materials such as plastic.
Humans have been building wooden birdhouses for many, many centuries now. In some regions, these birdhouses were used as traps for catching food, where in other parts of the world they were designed simply to help protect birds from the elements, as well as from predators. And while today there is little reason to trap local birds for food, protective enclosures are still as popular as ever. Avian enthusiasts around the world find that such enclosures offer a very unique opportunity to observe the behavior of local bird species without disturbing their natural tendencies. It is not unusual for a bird lover to have several such enclosures incorporated into their property.
Birdhouses can be found in a nearly infinite variety of styles and can be incorporated into nearly landscape. Rudimentary designs, which are often little more than a box with a hinged lid, are easy to find through just about any home improvement store, or can be easily built with a few simple hand tools. Of course, there are also those that are looking for something a bit more extravagant and/or unique. With a little bit of imagination, wooden birdhouses can become much more than a simple box. Castles, mansions, churches, and any other famous building can be easily scaled down and transformed into a one-of-a-kind birdhouse. However, it is important to remember that larger enclosures and highly detailed craftsmanship can add considerably amount to the cost.
Local home improvement stores can be a great place to begin a search for a new backyard birdhouse. These stores often carry a variety of designs, most of which are quite affordable. There are also dozens of online retailers that specialize in uniquely styled birdhouses and other landscaping accessories.
