Wren Bird Houses

If you would like to attract some wrens to your backyard then it is a good idea to install several wren bird houses. The reason for this is that the male wren will build several nests over an area, then the female will arrive and select just one. If you have several wren bird houses in your area, it will be more attractive to the male and ultimately, the female as well.

You should be aware of the wren's habits before you install any bird houses. The wren is an aggressive bird and will puncture the eggs of other birds that nest nearby. The wren will also fight other wrens that try to inhabit the same area and will challenge any other species as well.

That being said, the wren is one of the easiest birds to attract to a bird house and they also have a pleasant song. Your wren bird houses should have an entrance hole ΒΌ" in diameter and have a 4" by 4" floor space.

The wren is also one of the few birds that will actually enjoy a hanging bird house. If you do decide to hang a bird house make sure that it is hanging 5 to 10 feet from the floor. This will make it harder for predators to jump up and attack the nest.
